Kitchen Appliance Highlight

I always feel like adding a new kitchen appliance is a bit of a gamble . . . it’s going to be useful enough to make it worth the space it takes up in the kitchen?

So far the answer is a big yes on this food chopper. It has really motivated me to improve my batching. It’s a cinch (especially since I usually have at least one kid around who thinks it’s cool and wants to help) to chop lots of onions, garlic, carrots, etc. so that the majority of my veggies are chopped for my week’s meals. Having them ready to go dramatically reduces my prep time which has been HUGE!

I purchased the 4 in 1 which comes with a large and small chopper insert, as well as 2 spiralizer blades. I don’t see myself using the spiralizer tools much and if I could do it again would probably just go with the 2 in 1. But there are a lot of options for additional accessories . . .you may want to take a look and consider whether any would be worthwhile for you!

The fries alone may make this nifty tool worth the space it takes up in my cabinet. It’s so quick and easy to have evenly sized fries, which is a huge plus in getting them all perfectly golden brown.

To make our favorite fries:

Preheat oven to 450 bake (use convection if you have it)

Wash and cut yukon gold potatoes into 2-3 inch chunks (chunk size depends on the strength of the person chopping . . . start small and work your way up!)

We like to chop the fries with the smaller blade, which makes them about 1/2 cm thick. So they are tiny, but cook quickly and have more surface area to enjoy!

Toss fries with a small amount of oil and salt if desired.

Bake for about 20 minutes, stirring once. Remove when fries are nicely golden brown and eat immediately!

Disclaimer: These blades are VERY SHARP! One of my boys has cut himself twice (thankfully both minor) when he inadvertently touched the blades. Use extreme caution and supervision with younger children.
