Nathan Reo’s Brain Smoothie

I love Nathan Reo’s story of healing his brain–at one point he was unable to tie his shoes and could barely read unless he’d had some Adderall or caffeine.

Today he feels as healthy as he did 15 years earlier, has been Adderall-free for 18 months, and now even avoids caffeine and ibuprofen.

Smoothies were the foundation of his healing and the most complicated thing he eats in a day. He relied on hypernourishment through green smoothies during the first weeks off Adderall and continues to have one daily.

Our family has a green smoothie along with our oatmeal each morning, but I love to make another one or two for my husband and I to really pack in some extra nutrition. It’s a powerful way to consume some of the best foods you can eat: leafy greens, berries, flax/chia and turmeric!

I’ve also been getting adventurous with fresh ginger, fresh mint and fresh lemon or lime juice. Adding all of these things can take some time, but making a batch of smoothie jars is an amazing way to save time.

I love filling up a water bottle with smoothie and taking it on the go–it’s the perfect way to stay full and nourished on the go!

As an added bonus, my toddler likes to steal my smoothie, which is great since he’s definitely not my biggest consumer of raw veggies.

Nate uses bananas and juice for flavor. I also like to use frozen mango, pineapple or sweet cherries.

Nate’s story inspires me with the power each of us has to overcome really hard things. Listen HERE!
